ISRO developing its own regional navigation system

India's national space agency, ISRO, is working on developing its own regional navigation system.

You can soon access signals from ISRO's navigation satellites using your mobile phone.

India's Space Ambitions Take Flight

India's national space agency, ISRO, is poised to make significant strides in the coming years. One of its key initiatives is to make the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), or NaVIC, more accessible to the public. Currently used primarily for strategic purposes, NaVIC will soon be available to civilians through mobile phones.

What is NaVIC?

NaVIC is India's own satellite-based navigation system, offering accurate positioning services. It provides better accuracy than other global navigation systems, particularly within India and its surrounding regions.

ISRO's Future Plans

 * Increased Satellite Launches: ISRO aims to launch a dozen satellites annually, including six GSLV launches, to meet the growing demands of the space sector.

 * Global Collaboration: India is strengthening its international partnerships. A notable example is the upcoming launch of the European Union's Proba-3 spacecraft, which will be launched from India's Sriharikota spaceport. This mission aims to study the Sun's corona.

These developments underscore India's commitment to space exploration and its aspiration to become a global space power.
